A devastating fire swept through Metafrique Steel in the Douala-Bassa industrial zone early Monday, November 2, 2026, leaving 16 people with severe burns. Reports indicate that an explosion may have occurred before the blaze erupted. The victims were rushed to Douala General Hospital, where they are receiving treatment in the intensive burns unit. Their conditions are reportedly critical. Centre Region Governor Samuel Dieudonné Ivaha Diboua visited the victims and expressed concern over alleged failures to respect safety measures previously prescribed by authorities.
