Summary

Corruption remains a challenge in Cameroon, but new figures show a decline in reported cases in 2025. According to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (CONAC), 8,036 complaints were received and processed during the year, compared with 10,520 in 2024. That represents a drop of 2,484 complaints, or 23.61%. While the decline offers a little encouragement, the figures suggest that corruption has not packed its bags just yet. Several public administration sectors continue to attract complaints, while court decisions have resulted in prison sentences and financial consequences for individuals found guilty of misappropriating public funds. CONAC’s 2025 report identifies 12 sectors that recorded the highest numbers of corruption complaints. They include: - Land affairs - Public service - Finance - Education - Public procurement - Water and energy - Public health - Trade - Forestry and wildlife - Transport - Territorial administration - Sports These sectors remain under scrutiny because of complaints involving questionable practices and alleged abuses of public office. Among the reported problems are demands for payment for services that should be free, charges exceeding officially approved fees, unnecessary delays in processing files, unjustified withholding of documents, questionable inspections, misappropriation of public property, influence peddling, and illicit enrichment. In other words, some citizens are still encountering too many obstacles when dealing with services that are supposed to make their lives easier.
