POST-ELECTION CRISIS IN CAMEROON: 66 CONVICTED BY YAOUNDÉ MILITARY COURT, SOME DETAINEES SET TO WALK FREE!

Nearly a year after their arrest over protests linked to the disputed election, 66 people have been sentenced, while others remain in detention awaiting trial. The verdict is in, bringing a glimmer of hope for the imminent release of some detainees caught up in Cameroon's post-election crisis. Following a hearing on October 8, 2026, the Yaoundé Military Court convicted 66 people of various offences and handed down sentences ranging from suspended prison terms to several months behind bars. Meanwhile, other detainees are still waiting to face trial. Six to 15 Months in Prison: Verdict Changes Everything! After spending nearly a year behind bars, the 66 defendants have finally learned their fate. According to reports by RFI, they were found guilty of several offences, including “spreading false news,” “rebellion,” “unlawful assembly,” and “failure to possess a national identity card.” The sentences vary depending on the offence and the individual case. Some of those convicted received six-month prison sentences suspended, while others were handed six to 15 months of effective imprisonment. For several detainees, the verdict offers the prospect of imminent release. Some have already spent more time in detention than the prison terms imposed on them. Their release could therefore take place soon, subject to the procedures governing the implementation of the court's decisions. For others, however, the countdown continues. Those who received the longest sentences will have to spend several more months behind bars. Defence Lawyers Refuse to Give Up Although the convictions have been handed down, the legal battle is far from over. Defence lawyers intend to explore all available legal avenues in a bid to secure more favourable outcomes for their clients. Source: journalduCameroun.com

CLÉMENT ATANGANA’S FINAL JOURNEY HOME: CAMEROON PREPARES TO WELCOME BACK ITS LATE CONSTITUTIONAL COUNCIL PRESIDENT

Cameroon is preparing to receive the remains of Clément Atangana, the country’s first President of the Constitutional Council, who died in Paris on October 4, 2026, at the age of 85. His body was placed in a coffin on October 14 at the American Hospital of Neuilly-sur-Seine in France, ahead of its expected return to Yaoundé. The exact arrival date has not yet been officially announced. Born on September 20, 1941, in Ekoumeyeck, in the Nyong-et-So’o Division, Atangana devoted nearly 58 years to the judiciary. He served in several courts across Cameroon before being appointed to head the Constitutional Council by President Paul Biya on February 7, 2018. During his eight-year tenure, he presided over electoral disputes arising from the 2018 and 2025 presidential elections. The Council rejected challenges brought by opposition candidates Maurice Kamto and Issa Tchiroma Bakary, decisions that sparked contrasting reactions across the country. While supporters viewed Atangana as a guardian of institutional stability, critics questioned the Council’s handling of electoral disputes, making his tenure a subject of intense public debate. His death has also triggered controversy, with the Federation of Beti Traditional Patriarchal Associations condemning what it described as disrespectful and tribalistic comments directed at the late judicial figure. As preparations for his final journey continue, Cameroon faces the departure of a prominent figure whose legacy remains closely tied to the country’s constitutional and electoral history. A towering judicial career has come to an end, but the debate over Clément Atangana’s legacy is far from over.

CAMEROON’S GOLD SCANDAL! ONLY 22.3KG DECLARED FOR EXPORT AS DUBAI RECORDS OVER 15 TONNES!

A staggering gap in gold export figures is raising serious questions about Cameroon’s mining sector as President Paul Biya pushes to increase mining revenues in the 2027 state budget. On October 12, 2026, President Biya signed the framework document for preparing the 2027 state budget, calling for tighter controls on mining activities and increased contributions from gold, iron ore and bauxite exploitation. But troubling figures are casting a shadow over these ambitions. According to an analysis published on April 17, 2026, by Ahmed Zouari of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) International Secretariat, Cameroon declared just 22.3 kilograms of gold exports in 2023, while the United Arab Emirates reportedly recorded more than 15 tonnes of gold imports originating from Cameroon. The enormous discrepancy raises questions about gold traceability, export controls and potential losses in public revenue. However, the figures alone do not establish how much gold may have been illegally exported or the amount of tax revenue potentially lost. The situation became even more alarming when the Cameroon National Mining Corporation (SONAMINES) reported that not a single gram of gold was exported through formal channels in 2025, according to a meeting report published on March 19, 2026. With the government seeking to boost mining revenue in 2027, these figures highlight the urgent need for stronger oversight, transparent reporting and effective monitoring of gold production and exports. 💰 THE BIG QUESTION: If Cameroon is producing gold, why do the official export figures tell such a different story from the quantities recorded abroad? BIG BOOST FOR CAMEROON’S ROAD NETWORK! FCFA 139.2 BILLION LOAN SECURED FOR DOUALA–BAFOUSSAM ROAD REHABILITATION!

Cameroon has secured a massive FCFA 139.2 billion loan from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) to rehabilitate the strategic Douala–Bafoussam highway, in a move expected to improve transportation and boost economic activities. The loan agreement, worth €212.35 million, was signed on October 13, 2026, in Bangkok, Thailand, on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. The project targets one of Cameroon’s most important economic corridors, linking Douala, the country’s economic capital, to Bafoussam, the capital of the West Region and a major agricultural production hub. Under the National Development Strategy 2020–2030 (SND30), the rehabilitation aims to ease traffic, improve the movement of people and goods, and facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce from the West Region to major domestic markets and neighbouring countries. With FCFA 139.2 billion now committed to the project, expectations are rising for improved road connectivity, smoother journeys and a stronger boost to trade and agricultural distribution across Cameroon.

THE HOUSE OF HORRORS: Inside Muea’s Nightmarish Killing Fields and the Normalized Silence of Cameroon’s Crisis

A Morning That Shattered Eternity The dawn of Monday, October 5, broke over Muea’s Quarter 11 in Buea with a deceptive, fragile calm. Tem Clovis rose early, stepping out into the brisk morning air, fully intending to navigate another routine day amidst the fragile rhythms of Cameroon’s conflict-scarred Southwest Region. But a sudden, chilling electric current of chaos rippled through the neighborhood barely 200 meters from his doorstep. Whispers turned into panicked shouts, and shouts into a tide of horrified humanity rushing toward the St. Andrew’s Catholic primary school field. What awaited the crowd on that dew-soaked grass was not merely a crime scene—it was a theater of absolute horror. Three lifeless bodies lay dumped like discarded trash. Driven by a dreadful, magnetic pull, Clovis surged forward through the throng, staring down into the bloodied, battered faces of the dead. In that split second, time fractured forever. Looking back up at him from the cold earth was the bruised, unrecognizable face of his identical twin brother, Tem Elvis. What follows is an explosive, chilling exposé into the dark underbelly of Muea’s security sweeps, a harrowing chronicle of state detention gone fatally wrong, and the deafening, normalized silence that shields extrajudicial terror in Cameroon's fractured Northwest and Southwest regions.

SEVERAL INJURED AS MOGHAMO EXPRESS BUS CRASHES AT DSCHANG CLIFF

A morning journey turned into a nightmare on Tuesday, October 13, after a Moghamo Express intercity bus travelling from Douala to Bamenda veered off the road at the notorious Dschang Cliff before plunging into a ditch. The accident left several passengers injured, with some rushed to nearby health facilities for emergency medical attention. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain unclear, and no official death toll has been reported in the available information. The incident has once again raised concerns about road safety along the Dschang Cliff, a challenging stretch of road frequently associated with dangerous driving conditions. It is worth recalling that the road was recently reopened to the public after the Chinese company responsible for its renovation officially announced the completion of all works in the area. More details are expected as information about the victims and the circumstances of the accident emerges.

PAINFUL COURT RULING! OVER 100 FAMILIES FACE LOSING THEIR HOMES IN LIMBE!

PAINFUL COURT RULING! OVER 100 FAMILIES FACE LOSING THEIR HOMES IN LIMBE! A Supreme Court decision has sparked fear and confusion in Mile Four, Bonadikombo, Limbe, where more than 100 families risk losing homes they have occupied for decades. On October 12, 2026, worried residents reportedly stormed the palace of the traditional ruler, HRH David Nanyowe, seeking intervention over a land dispute involving property awarded to Namondo Alice Ekema Wilson. The affected families, some of whom have lived on the land for over 25 years, insist they have never recognised Wilson as their landlord. Among those affected is renowned mathematician and musician Akwa Usman, who says he purchased his plot in 1992 and subsequently obtained a land certificate. The dispute dates back to a 1955 lease agreement. After years of litigation, the Supreme Court dismissed an appeal by Blasius Njanjo in April 2023 on procedural grounds, leaving the earlier decisions in favour of Wilson standing. Residents say they have recently received summons to appear before the Gendarmerie Legion in Buea, heightening fears of possible eviction. The affected neighbourhoods reportedly include Quarters 6, 7, 8, 9 (Promise Land) and 14. Chief David Nanyowe urged residents not to panic and advised them to seek legal representation. They are now appealing to Limbe I Divisional Officer Moni Innocent Nanje and other authorities to intervene. The big question: Will the authorities step in before decades of homeownership claims turn into a heartbreaking homelessness crisis?

BREAKING: Cameroon Senate President’s Office Fires Back at Assassination Rumours Against Lamido Rey-Bouba

A wave of alarming social media reports has triggered an official response from Cameroon’s Senate, with the institution firmly dismissing claims of an alleged assassination attempt against Senate President Aboubakary Abdoulaye, the powerful Lamido of Rey-Bouba. The Office of the President of the Senate has moved swiftly to shut down the circulating rumours, describing the allegations as “completely false and misleading” in a communiqué dated October 12, 2026. The statement, signed by Justin Njomatchoua, Director of Cabinet of the President of the Senate, comes amid growing concern over the spread of unverified information on social media. Senate Breaks Its Silence In a strongly worded response, the Senate President’s Office urged Cameroonians to exercise caution before believing or sharing sensational claims circulating online. According to the communiqué, the allegations have no basis, and the public is being called upon to avoid spreading information that could fuel unnecessary tension. The office also warned that such rumours could threaten social cohesion and national unity, stressing the importance of responsible communication in a climate where unverified reports can spread rapidly across digital platforms. Is Rey-Bouba Lamido Safe? Here Is What the Senate Says Putting speculation to rest, the communiqué states that Aboubakary Abdoulaye remains active and continues to carry out his normal responsibilities during the parliamentary recess. Beyond his duties as Senate President, he continues to fulfil his traditional responsibilities as Lamido of Rey-Bouba. The statement, however, did not explain how the assassination rumours originated or identify those responsible for circulating them. Source: ThePost Newspaper online

Corruption in Cameroon: These are the 12 sectors that recorded the highest numbers of corruption complaints

Corruption remains a challenge in Cameroon, but new figures show a decline in reported cases in 2025. According to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (CONAC), 8,036 complaints were received and processed during the year, compared with 10,520 in 2024. That represents a drop of 2,484 complaints, or 23.61%. While the decline offers a little encouragement, the figures suggest that corruption has not packed its bags just yet. Several public administration sectors continue to attract complaints, while court decisions have resulted in prison sentences and financial consequences for individuals found guilty of misappropriating public funds. CONAC’s 2025 report identifies 12 sectors that recorded the highest numbers of corruption complaints. They include: - Land affairs - Public service - Finance - Education - Public procurement - Water and energy - Public health - Trade - Forestry and wildlife - Transport - Territorial administration - Sports These sectors remain under scrutiny because of complaints involving questionable practices and alleged abuses of public office. Among the reported problems are demands for payment for services that should be free, charges exceeding officially approved fees, unnecessary delays in processing files, unjustified withholding of documents, questionable inspections, misappropriation of public property, influence peddling, and illicit enrichment. In other words, some citizens are still encountering too many obstacles when dealing with services that are supposed to make their lives easier. CAMTEL and SPIN Gabon Team Up to Boost Internet Connectivity Across Central Africa

Faster connections, stronger networks, and a more digitally connected Central Africa! Cameroon Telecommunications (CAMTEL) and Gabon’s Digital Infrastructure Heritage Company (SPIN) are stepping up efforts to improve cross-border telecommunications and bring the region closer together in the digital world. The General Manager of CAMTEL, Judith Yah Sunday Epse Achidi, recently welcomed her Gabonese counterpart, Bertrand Mahoukou Bitchinda, General Manager of SPIN Gabon, for a high-level working session focused on strengthening digital cooperation between the two countries. The goal? To make it easier for data to travel across borders, improve network reliability, and strengthen digital integration throughout Central Africa. Connecting Countries, One Fibre at a Time! At the heart of the discussions was the CAB-CORRIDOR initiative, an ambitious regional project designed to expand terrestrial fibre-optic connections linking Cameroon, Gabon, and the Republic of the Congo. By making better use of the existing Central African Backbone (CAB) infrastructure, the two companies hope to improve cross-border connectivity, increase regional data traffic within the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC), and build more resilient telecommunications networks. In simple terms, this means stronger digital links between neighbouring countries and a better foundation for businesses institutions, and internet users. October 2026: The Next Big Step Following the signing of foundational agreements between the participating operators, both delegations have begun outlining the next steps towards bringing the project to life. The immediate priority is to finalise the operational arrangements and technical frameworks needed to move from agreements on paper to practical implementation. These preparations are scheduled for completion in October 2026, marking an important milestone in the project's development. Source: JournalduCameroun.com

Family of Boat Accident Victim Reportedly Prepares Legal Action Over Deaths on Apostle John Chi’s Island

The family of one of the victims who died during a religious pilgrimage on Mudeka Island in Tiko Subdivision, Cameroon, has reportedly expressed its readiness to pursue legal action against Apostle John Chi, according to human rights advocate Ayah Ayah Abine. In a statement shared on his Facebook page, Ayah disclosed that an agreement in principle had been reached with a bereaved family and a team of four lawyers to initiate legal proceedings over the incident. “We’ve now come to an agreement in principle with a team of four lawyers and a bereaved family who are ready to press charges against them and who think that religious status confers legal immunity,” Ayah wrote. According to Fako Senior Divisional Officer Viang Mekala, five students lost their lives during a religious pilgrimage on Mudeka Island, located in Tiko Subdivision in Cameroon’s South-West Region. The circumstances surrounding the deaths have sparked public concern, with some people raising questions about possible negligence and the responsibility of those who organised or supervised the pilgrimage. As of the time of this report, Apostle John Chi had not issued a public statement explaining the circumstances surrounding the incident. The reported move towards legal action could pave the way for further scrutiny of the events that led to the students’ deaths and the question of accountability. However, any allegations of negligence or legal responsibility would need to be established through the appropriate investigative and judicial processes.

Cameroon: Socadel Unveils CFAF 107 Billion Emergency Plan to Revive Electricity Supply

Socadel has unveiled a CFAF 107 billion emergency recovery plan for 2026–2027 aimed at improving electricity supply and stabilising its troubled finances. The company is also seeking CFAF 260 billion in funding, including CFAF 150 billion to refinance its existing debt. Cameroon’s electricity sector could be heading towards a major restructuring as Socadel moves to address persistent power supply challenges and mounting financial difficulties. The electricity operator presented its emergency recovery programme this week, outlining measures designed to restore the reliability of electricity generation while improving its financial position. The CFAF 107 billion plan for 2026–2027 focuses on two key priorities: securing a more reliable electricity supply for consumers and restoring the company’s financial stability. Rehabilitation of Power Plants and Expansion of Solar Energy The recovery programme includes the rehabilitation of thermal generating units that are currently out of service, as well as major maintenance work on hydroelectric power plants. Socadel also plans to accelerate the development of solar energy infrastructure as part of efforts to diversify electricity production and reduce dependence on fuel oil. These measures are intended to improve the availability of electricity generation capacity and help address supply disruptions affecting consumers. CFAF 260 Billion in Funding Sought Beyond the emergency programme, Socadel is seeking to mobilise CFAF 260 billion to support its broader recovery efforts. Of this amount, CFAF 150 billion is earmarked for refinancing existing debt. Source: Lejournalducameroun.com

CEMAC to Withdraw Older CFA Franc Coins from Circulation

Starting November 1, 2026, older CFA franc coins from the 1958, 1959, 1971, 1976, and 1985 series will no longer be legally valid across the six member countries of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC). The decision was taken on October 7, 2026, in N’Djamena, Chad, during the third ordinary session of the year of the Ministerial Committee of the Central African Monetary Union (UMAC), held under the auspices of the Bank of Central African States (BEAC). End of an Era for Older CFA Franc Coins The meeting marked a major turning point for older CFA franc coins in the Central African region. After reviewing a proposal to withdraw several outdated coin series from circulation, the finance ministers of the six UMAC member states approved their demonetisation. Under the decision, coins belonging to the 1958, 1959, 1971, 1976, and 1985 series will lose their legal tender status and liberating power as of November 1, 2026. This means that, from that date, the affected coins will no longer be legally recognised as a means of payment within the six CEMAC member countries. The measure forms part of the region’s monetary management efforts and marks the end of the official validity of these older coin series.

Cameroon’s Cybersecurity: The Risks of an Alliance with Moscow

Cameroon’s cybersecurity strategy is entering a controversial phase as Moscow becomes directly involved in discussions surrounding the protection of the country’s sensitive digital infrastructure. The National Agency for Information and Communication Technologies (ANTIC) has partnered with the Russian Embassy and cybersecurity company Kaspersky at a forum held in Yaoundé. The meeting comes amid growing concerns over cybercrime, which reportedly cost Cameroon a record CFAF 5.8 billion in 2025. However, the decision to collaborate with Russian technology providers has raised questions about data sovereignty, national security, and the potential geopolitical implications of entrusting sensitive government systems to a foreign power that has faced international allegations of cyberespionage. Widespread Security Gaps in Public Administration Figures presented by ANTIC highlight the scale of cybersecurity challenges facing Cameroon’s public administration. In 2025, authorities reportedly recorded more than 17,500 complaints related to cybercrime, while 21,280 computers were compromised and 39 direct attacks targeted official government portals. The situation appears to extend beyond isolated incidents. During the forum, engineer Lawrence Mingo reportedly revealed that a government ministry was paralyzed for nearly a month in March 2026 because of a Windows server that had not been updated. TRANSPORTATION AGENCY SUSPENDED AT NSIMALEN AND DOUALA AIRPORTS FOLLOWING STRIKE NOTICE

The TAXIGO project has been suspended at Douala International Airport and Yaoundé-Nsimalen International Airport following a strike notice issued by transport unions. Three days before the planned industrial action, the Director General of Aéroports du Cameroun (ADC SA), Thomas Owona Assoumou, ordered the suspension of the project with effect from October 9, 2026, until further notice. The decision was communicated in an official letter addressed to taxi drivers' unions. Meanwhile, the existing taxi operating system at both airports will remain in place. Suspension Follows Meeting at the Ministry of Transport The suspension was announced in correspondence No. 2633-26/ADC/DG/DG.SR, addressed to the Dynamique Unitaire des Syndicats des Transports du Cameroun, a coalition of transport unions in Cameroon. The decision followed a meeting held on Friday, October 9, 2026, at the Ministry of Transport to discuss the strike notice submitted by the unions. In the letter, ADC's Director General stated: "Following the conclusions of the meeting held on Friday, October 9, 2026, at the Ministry of Transport concerning your strike notice, I have the honour to inform you that the implementation of the TAXIGO project has been suspended until further notice." The decision represents a pause in the implementation of a project that has faced opposition from taxi drivers' unions for several weeks. What Does the Suspension Mean for TAXIGO? Although the announcement brings temporary relief to the unions opposing the project, the suspension should not be interpreted as a permanent cancellation. As of the announcement, there has been no official indication that TAXIGO has been abandoned or that its operating conditions will be revised. Concerns previously raised about the project include the requirement for a security deposit, the use of designated vehicles, and daily revenue remittances. Source: 237online.com
