About the Role
Greenpeace Africa is seeking a highly skilled and proactive IT Officer to support and strengthen the organisation’s technology environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, security, and continuous improvement of IT infrastructure, systems, networks, and end-user support services, ensuring reliability, business continuity, operational efficiency, and digital transformation across regional offices.
Key Responsibilities
💻 Systems Administration & Infrastructure
Administer and maintain VMware virtual environments
Manage Linux and Windows server systems
Monitor server performance, storage usage, and system reliability
Perform patch management, upgrades, configuration management, and preventive maintenance
Conduct backup testing, restoration, and disaster recovery procedures
🌐 Network & Infrastructure Management
Configure and maintain LAN, WAN, wireless networks, routers, and switches
Support connectivity across offices and remote environments
Monitor network performance and troubleshoot infrastructure issues
Maintain data center support systems and ensure service continuity
🔐 Cybersecurity & Data Protection
Enforce cybersecurity policies and best practices
Manage identity and access controls
Monitor vulnerabilities and security incidents
Support firewall, antivirus, endpoint protection, and compliance initiatives
Lead cybersecurity improvements including SSO and security framework implementation
🖥 End-User Support & Service Desk
Deliver first-level and advanced technical support
Resolve hardware and software incidents efficiently
Support onboarding and offboarding of employees
Maintain service quality across all offices
☁ Backup, Recovery & Continuous Improvement
Manage backup systems and disaster recovery procedures
Maintain technical documentation and reporting
Support procurement and technology modernization initiatives
Research emerging technologies and recommend improvements
Required Skills & Competencies

Qualifications & Experience
🎓 Bachelor’s Degree in:
Information Technology
Computer Science
Computer Engineering
Or related field (or equivalent experience)
Professional certifications are advantageous:
Apple Certified Support Professional
Microsoft Certified IT Professional
Cybersecurity Certification
Experience Requirements:
3–5 years in IT Support, Systems Administration, or Network Administration
Experience with VMware and Linux environments
Enterprise network infrastructure support experience
Experience with IT Service Desk platforms
Knowledge of Google Cloud (GCP)
